Ethan’s Great North Run - In memory of his Grandad

Ethan Tearne is raising money for Blood Cancer UK

Great North Run 2026 · 13 September 2026 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

On the 24th of May 2026, I sadly lost my Grandad, Melvyn James Tearne, to Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), a fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

Watching him battle this illness was incredibly difficult for our family, and his loss has left a huge gap in all of our lives. He was a much-loved dad, grandad, father in law, brother, uncle and friend, and he is deeply missed every day.

To honour his memory, I will be taking on the Great North Run 2026. Running 13.1 miles in aid of Blood Cancer Uk to help raise money for this charity so that one day a cure for this terrible disease can be found.

Any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean a great deal to me and my family. Thank you for your support and for helping to make a difference in memory of my Grandad.
