Story
Hi, I am Ethan. I am 15 years old and I started Scouting as a Beaver when I was 7. Joining Scouts has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. For me, it has never really been about badges or awards, it is about the kind of person Scouting encourages you to become.
I have been selected to represent the UK as part of Unit 6: North Scotland at the World Scout Jamboree 2027 in Gdańsk, Poland. When I found out, I felt incredibly proud and excited. The idea of standing alongside Scouts from all over the world and representing Scotland feels very special.
The Jamboree is a chance to meet new people, experience different cultures, learn new skills and see the world from a different perspective. I am looking forward to challenging myself, making new friends and learning from people whose lives and experiences are different from my own.
Scouting has taught me that real growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is the importance of looking after others, making people feel welcome and making sure no one is left out. These are values I hope to carry with me wherever I go.
Outside of Scouts, I swim competitively for Westhill District and recently competed at the Scottish National Age Group Swimming Championships 2026 which was an amazing experience. I also play chess with the North East Junior Chess Association. Both swimming and chess have taught me patience, resilience and the importance of staying focused when facing challenges.
To take part in this amazing adventure, I need to raise £3800 to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, meals, activities, Scout kit and other essential expenses.
One of my first fundraising challenges was completing the 18-mile Aberdeen Kiltwalk. It was a long day and definitely pushed me but thanks to everyone's encouragement and support, I made it to the finish.
I will be taking on more fundraising challenges over the coming months as well as selling some handmade accessories.
If you are able to support my fundraising, I would be incredibly grateful. Your support will help me take part in this once in a lifetime experience, represent my community and Scotland, come home with new skills, friendships and memories to share.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for your support.
