Story
Aged 6, Hamish read a book called 'Boys Who Dare To Be Different' and felt inspired. In the book there was a story about a boy called Christian who grew his hair so he could donate it to a charity that made wigs for children who had lost their hair during their cancer treatment - Hamish read that and said, 'I want to help too'.
So he did... for the past 4 years Hamish has been growing his hair so that he can donate it to The Little Princess Trust.
The thing to know about this decision is that Hamish HATES having long hair. He hates brushing it, washing it and tying it up every day. At least once a week he's mistaken for a girl which, for some 9 year old boys would be mortifying, but Hamish just responds with a shrug and a grin. He has never, for a moment, thought about giving up.
Finally, on the verge of his 10th birthday, Hamish's hair is long enough to donate.
But growing his hair isn't the hardest part of helping a child who has lost theirs - that starts now.
It costs The Little Princess Trust £550 to turn a hair donation into a wig. For his 10th birthday Hamish would like to raise as much money as he can to help TLPT to turn the hair he has spent 4 years growing, washing and (grudgingly) brushing into a free wig for a child who needs it.
When a child loses their hair to cancer or another condition, The Little Princess Trust are there with a free, real hair wig to help restore their confidence and identity. They won't stop until the research that they fund ends childhood cancer forever. That's a promise.
Please visit them at www.littleprincesses.org.uk to find out how you can help them give young people back what cancer takes away.
The Trust relies solely on the efforts of enthusiastic community fundraisers. They receive no formal funding. Please help to raise money for them so that they can help more families.
