Story
Hi, I’m Eugenia, and in just 5 weeks, I’ll be running my first full marathon in Sierra Leone! I’ve only ever done a half marathon before, so this is a huge personal challenge for me!
When Street Child started working in Sierra Leone in 2008, it was the poorest nation in the world. Today, children continue to face significant barriers to learning, with 36% of children never completing primary school and many more leaving school without foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
Without intervention, children risk getting stuck in a cycle of illiteracy and poverty.
The Sierra Leone Marathon has supported almost 750,000 children into education and 90,000 families to set up businesses so they can afford the cost of educating their children long-term.
Here’s how your support can make a real difference:
- £12 could support an emergency-affected student returning to school in Somalia with school materials to last her a term.
- £33 could provide a child in Liberia with an education support package, including a school bag, new uniform, exercise books and new pens.
- £250 could provide a family with a business grant that enables them to afford the costs of sending two children back to school
💡 Every penny I raise goes directly to Street Child, and if you’re a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid can make your donation worth 25% more at no extra cost to you.
This marathon isn’t just a personal challenge — it’s a chance to give children the education they deserve.
If you can, please donate and help me reach my goal. Even a small donation can have a huge impact. Thank you so much for supporting me!
