I will be going as part of a team of volunteers to a local Ugandan school for 4 weeks near Jinja to turn an empty field into a vivid and energetic playground for the community. Enhancing aspects of their school life, and enriching their physical, mental and social growth through play!

Play Action International is 'an international NGO whose mission is to use play-based approaches to enhance disadvantaged children's learning, development and wellbeing.' In previous years, these projects with PAI have shown a huge increase in pupil attendance, children's attentiveness in school, communication skills, and general attitude to learning.

Play Action supports some of the most vulnerable children and communities in the world, including children living in extreme poverty and those experiencing danger, displacement, conflict and natural/humanitarian disasters. Become the leading play-based charity in Uganda's refugee settlements with over 250,000 refugee children supported so far!! They have additionally provided 560,000 children with a safe place to play, heal, learn and develop.

Since building the playgrounds the schools have reported a 98% increase in attendance at school. And 83% of teachers reported improvements to children behaviour and attention in classes.

I will be doing various fundraising activities: Bucket collection in London, dry January, bake sales, charity quizzes, and a concert in early springtime to raise money for this cause.
