Story
When time is of the essence, Blood Bikes Scotland deliver essential medical items for NHS Scotland on demand between hospitals, healthcare facilities and patients’ homes, supporting both primary and secondary healthcare services.
Their agile operational model means that blood, blood products, specimens, medications, documents and smaller pieces of medical equipment are transported swiftly and securely to where they are urgently needed. They deliver a high-quality service, free of charge, 365 days a year in all weathers, providing significant cost savings to NHS Scotland.
Their charity is entirely funded by voluntary donation – both private and corporate – and receives no payment from government or the NHS, which is why I'm helping them fundraise by taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk's Big Stroll (11.3 miles) on 14 September.
