Story
What exactly needs to be done when someone dies?
Do you know where to turn if parts of your life are being halted, physically/emotionally/financially/etc.?
I am taking part in the London to Brighton Cycle 2025 to raise money for AtaLoss.
They are a bereavement signposting and support charity that works towards the goal of every person experiencing loss being able to find the support that is available to them. Their flagship ataloss.org website holds an expanding directory of over 2000 services, resources and articles and even a free live helpline. A quick look around the site will show you a multitude of grief support aspects you may never have considered before.
The charity also runs The Bereavement Journey, a 7 week group-based grief support course for anybody who has been bereaved. I have heard of and seen numerous examples of people coming to terms more healthily with a loss, and living happier lives after attending.
This is a cause close to my heart as I have known many people to suffer dearly after somebody's death. It is our natural instinct to help out - but we can't always know what to do or say.
When I come to experience great losses later in my life, I'll know that the work of charities like AtaLoss is available to help - and I want as many people as possible to be able to access bereavement support for their wellbeing too.
