In the wake of the deadly earthquakes in early February, Samaritan’s
Purse quickly mobilized nearly 100 disaster response specialists and
began preparing relief supplies for rapid deployment.
Within days, we airlifted an Emergency Field Hospital and aid supplies
to Turkey to address the urgent needs of families suffering amid the
destruction. A follow-up airlift by our DC-8 cargo jet brought 18 tons of
additional relief, including medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and more
than 200 tents for displaced families.
Our mobile medical facility is located in a town near Antakya—
historically known as Antioch—adjacent to the non-operational Hatay
State Hospital that was irreparably crippled by the earthquakes. Staffed
by our medical professionals, the field hospital opened on February 13.
Our teams are also distributing supplies such as hygiene kits, blankets,
and solar lights, and will be providing temporary tent shelters for
a projected 3,000 displaced families. A recent airlift also delivered
water and sanitation supplies—including four freshwater treatment
systems—additional family tents, and medical resupply materials.
