Story
Written by my partners Mum -
Three years ago my son was diagnosed with an autoimmune skin blistering disease called Pemphigus Vulgaris (PV for short).
Pemphigus and Pemphigoid diseases are so rare, little is known about the disease, both publicly and professionally, resulting in delayed diagnosis and trearment. Ultimately prolonging the pain and suffering for those eventually diagnosed. This is an extremely painful, life long condition. There is no cure! Much more research is required to explore different treatment options as treatment often involves high dose steroids, which can also have lifelong side effects.
Myself and my friends are taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk to raise money and awareness for a small, volunteer run charity called PEM Friends. The charity provides support and advice to people suffering from a rare skin blistering disease. Our aim is to help raise awareness of the disease and raise funds to help PEM friends continue to provide the much needed support and advice to people with a diagnosis.
