Next month, Nichola and I will be taking on Helvellyn in the Lake District to raise money and awareness for two charities that mean so much to us.
Nichola will be supporting Parkinson’s UK in memory of her Granddad, and I will be raising funds for OWLS (Overcoming Worry, Loss and Sadness) Bereavement Service, part of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
I lost my Dad when I was just 8 years old, and it’s something that has stayed with me ever since. Losing someone so important at such a young age is incredibly difficult to process, and the impact doesn’t just go away – it grows with you. I feel very lucky that I had support during that time, as it made such a difference in helping me understand and cope with what I was going through.
That’s why OWLS means so much to me. They support children aged 4–11 and their families after the death of someone special, offering one-to-one counselling, school workshops, and opportunities to connect with other children going through similar experiences. They create a safe space where children can begin to process their grief, feel understood, and, even if just for a moment, be children again.
