Story
This year, I’m taking on another cycling challenge with four others — a 500km ride to support everyone whose lives have been affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
The challenge will be completed over five days by myself - Les, Tony, Colin, Darren & Brad.
As many of you know, I lost my beautiful wife Julie in 2024 to MND. It is a cruel and devastating disease that gradually takes away a person’s ability to move, speak, eat, and breathe — while their mind remains strong. Watching someone you love face this illness is truly heartbreaking, and tragically, there is still no cure.
Every kilometre we ride represents determination, hope, and the belief that we must and can do better for those living with MND.
The money raised from this challenge will be donated to the Rob Burrow Foundation at Leeds Hospital. This will help to:
Provide compassionate, specialised care in a dedicated centre for people with MND.
Support services that improve quality of life for patients and their families.
Fund research that moves us closer to better treatments and understanding of MND.
Cycling 500km will be physically tough, but it’s nothing compared to what those living with MND endure every single day. When the miles get hard, we will be thinking of Julie, and of everyone currently fighting this disease, with the hope that together we can help find a cure.
If you’re able to donate, share, or support in any way, it would mean more than I can say. Every contribution — no matter the size — brings us one step closer to a world without MND. It makes a real difference to the lives of people living with MND and brings hope for improved care and future breakthroughs.
Thank you for helping us ride for Julie, for hope, and for a future free from Motor Neurone Disease. 💙🚴♂️
We will finish at The Ravenser Pub, 178 Southcoates Lane, Hull, HU9 3AP on Saturday 30th May 2026 for 1pm, hope to see you all there 🤞
