Kelly-Anne's fundraiser for Birth Trauma Association (BTA)

Kelly-Anne Barnes is raising money for Birth Trauma Association (BTA)

London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

The Birth Trauma Association supports families affected by traumatic childbirth. We also campaign to raise awareness of birth trauma and improve training of health professionals, as well as lobbying policymakers to improve care during and after childbirth.

Story

I want to use my ballot place in the London Marathon to raise awareness of the Birth Trauma Association (BTA). When I gave birth to my daughter in June 2024, i unknowingly had a condition called vasa previa which is a condition where the fetal blood vessel are unprotected and lie over of near the cervix. It affects between 1 in 1200 and 1 in 5000 pregnancies. The mortality rate of babies in undiagnosed cases are around 60%.

I was so lucky to have been in hospital when I started to bleed which meant both me and my daughter were fortunately okay. However, knowing the severity of the condition has made the journey through motherhood more difficult than it already is and makes us question whether we ever want anymore kids.

The BTA are brilliant at what they do (see above). Ive done lots of research but not started my own journey with them as I dont feel quite ready yet. However, they offer so many options to access help that suits different people. I hope raising some money for them will help them continue their incredible work. And give me the motivation and drive i need to keep going through training and the main event! Any donation is greatly appreciated ❤️
