Story
On the 9th September 2021, my fiancé Ben was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes and type of blood cancer at the age of 32. As a young, healthy (marathon running!) person we were quickly shown that cancer doesn’t discriminate, no matter your age, background, gender, lifestyle etc.
After 12 gruelling rounds of chemotherapy finishing in March 2022, we had the incredible news that Ben was in remission and this year, he’ll be ticking off *three* whole years in remission.
Being by Ben’s side throughout this experience was a privilege, but wasn’t without its challenges. Watching the person you love broken down and built back up again is really tough, and that’s why ever since his remission day, we’ve made it our mission to shout as loudly as possible about everyone getting to “know their normal”, getting anything checked if they need to and normalising talking about cancer, it might just save your life. That’s why we love Lymphoma Out Loud and their approach to being body brave (because believe me, it takes a lot to get me running!) and want to raise as much money and awareness as possible.
So for the first time ever, I’m learning to run. On 15th March 2026 I’ll be at the start line of the Bath Half Marathon, a little later than planned as my knee put the brakes on the original plan for the Cardiff Half Marathon. But despite being six months later than planned, for someone who was firmly a supporter and wouldn’t even run for the bus, this is still a pretty big deal…!
So if you’ve read this far, thank you. It would mean the world if you’re able to donate and help us well and truly say, “up yours Lymphoma! 🖕🏻” ❤️
