Story
From the 6th to the 13th of July, Mum (AKA “Granny D”) and I will be embarking on an unforgettable journey—walking the West Highland Way, covering a challenging 96 miles from North to South.
With the ever-unpredictable Scottish weather as our companion, we’ll brave the midges and tackle climbs and descents, including the infamous Devil’s Staircase. We’re adding a bit of extra challenge by doing it in reverse, oh Mum… your knees!
But this adventure is about more than just the trek—it’s about making a meaningful difference for children in need of medical care.
We’re raising funds for The ARCHIE Foundation Tayside, a charity that holds a very special place in our hearts. As a trustee of this incredible organisation, I’ve seen first-hand the profound impact it has on the lives of children and their families. ARCHIE’s vision is simple yet powerful: every child in the North of Scotland deserves access to world-class healthcare and compassionate bereavement support.
Did you know that 1 in 3 children will visit a children’s hospital each year? Since 2000, The ARCHIE Foundation has been providing vital extras that the NHS doesn’t cover and helps over 50,000 patients annually across the regions. This year marks its 25th anniversary—a testament to its unwavering commitment to transforming healthcare experiences for young patients.
The Archie Foundation is perhaps best known in Tayside for supporting the development of state-of-the-art facilities at Tayside Children’s Hospital, improving the experience for hundreds of children undergoing surgery each year. We’ve seen just how crucial this support is when babies, children and young people face medical challenges.
Looking ahead, Archie has exciting plans to expand our reach across Tayside—taking our services further into the community and ensuring even more families benefit from the support they need, when and where they need it most. These plans build on ARCHIE’s core pillars of support: creating child-friendly environments, providing bereavement care, funding specialist staff and equipment, and delivering play and family support services.
We’ve set a fundraising target of £500, and we’d be incredibly grateful for your support. Every donation—no matter the size—will go directly towards helping local children receive the care they deserve. Donating through **JustGiving** is quick, secure, and your details are always safe.
