Story
The Ewan Hind Legacy Bursary has been set up in Ewan's memory. Ewan was a passionate supporter of sail training; his own sail training experiences as a youngster shaped his interests and career, and he both volunteered and worked in the field, including for Gordonstoun School, Trinity Sailing and the Ocean Youth Club/Trust.
Ewan's Legacy Bursary to the Ocean Youth Trust South will help to enable youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds to access sail training opportunities that they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.
Ewan died tragically in Grenada on 12th December 2024 aged 46, having just crossed the Atlantic with his wife Sarah and sons Archie and Fergus on their boat Coconut as part of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) Plus.
Our aim is for this to be an ongoing annual bursary that we continue to fundraise for year-round. If you are interested in being a regular donor, please do let us know. We will keep supporters informed of fundraising events, which will be led by the family and friends of Ewan, including Ewan's sons.
We know that Ewan would love for his legacy to mean that others are able to access sailing opportunities that he shared with his own children, and were so important to him and fundamental to the direction of his life.
Ewan was the Chief Operating Officer for adventure yacht company Arksen. He had been involved in the marine industry since childhood, obtaining his Yachtsmaster ticket aged just 17, and had sailed in excess of 100,00 nautical miles. He was an RYA Yachtsmaster and Examiner, a skipper in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, worked as Operations Director for Trinity Sailing Foundation and had worked for Osyter Yachts as Lead Client Project Manager. He was a naval architect by training, and had worked as a captain on larger yachts. He was most at home on the water.
We are so grateful for any support that you are able to give.
