Oasis- a warm Welsh welcome to people seeking sanctuary.

Ewen McAlpine is raising money for Oasis

Cardiff Half Marathon 2025 · 5 October 2025 ·

Oasis started in 2008, and offers a warm Welsh welcome to over 4,500 asylum seekers and refugees every year. The range of projects, activities and services enable us to provide far reaching, holistic support to people with complex needs.

Story

It is not getting easier to be an asylum seeker or refugee in Wales. Please help us fund the work that gives incredible people a chance at making a new life.

This year's highlight for me is "Bill". Faced threat in his home country due to campaigning for young peoples' rights. Horrific journey across the world, isolated in tents, street performing for any coins to buy food. Got to Wales and found Oasis. Oasis has fed Bill, helped with his English, given him a community of fellow asylum seekers. Bill was accepted as a refugee. Oasis helped him win a funding grant to build an app helping asylum seekers find the resources they need. He runs a football team of other refugees. He volunteers countless hours at Oasis to help others. He is now a friend. What a legend and an inspiration.

Oasis is a truly special community. I am delighted to be part of it, helping to extend a warm Welsh welcome to those seeking sanctuary. This year has been one of external turbulence, with growing hostility towards many in our community. Every week, we hear stories of just how vital our support is. I am incredibly proud that Oasis continues to provide safe spaces and places where people can connect, receive guidance, find friendship and begin to heal.

Please give anything you can to help us offer a range of services from hot meals every day, to education, to job reaidness, to government influencing but most of all, community where asylum seekers and refugees can help each other start this new life.
