in August 2025 Beth’s dad had a major stroke whilst on holiday abroad. This affected his mobility initially losing all movement on the right hand side of his body, losing the use of his arm and affecting his speech only being able to say 2/3 words with severe aphasia.

A year later he has done amazing after weekly physio, speech and language therapy and specialist appointments he has learnt to walk again and his speech is getting better everyday.

His determination to not give up shows recovery is possible after a stroke but I will say it has been hard for him and our family and his recovery will continue for many years to come. We are lucky to have a big family who can support him but not every stroke survivor is that fortunate.

Every day, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. With strength, determination and the right support, recovery is possible.

Myself, Beth, her mum and her dad will be taking on the challenge as a group to do 62 miles in October.
