Story

Welcome to our Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run 2023 #TeamHDA campaign page.

Hi and thank you for your time. Please sponsor! Any amount no matter how small is very welcome.

Myself and my equally fanatical TR8 friend Brian Ridley-Jones are going to attempt an idiotic 2000-mile drive around Britain, non-stop*, in less than 48 hours, in a tiny 43-year-old Triumph TR8.

*Note: we will be stopping for fuel, food, comfort breaks and the prevention of deep-vein-thrombosis.

We are both 6-foot plus so this is going to be drafty, noisy and very compact to put it mildly!

Why are we doing this...?

Two reasons really,

1. This actual TR8 NWK988W was used by the factory on the Round Britain Rally in 1980 along with a Silver TR8. At the time it was done there had been no decision to not launch in the UK and it was still an active project. “The tour was through the Triumph Club in London and it was setting off on a Friday night up to “John O’Groats” then “Lands’ End” and back to London on the Sunday night. It was done with the intention of getting some publicity for the RHD TR8 yet to be launched in the UK, and for club members to see the cars.”

So essentially to recreate history, before either of us are too old to do the run!

2. For charity, and to see if man and machine are “still” capable of it. 125 teams are currently registered to participate, not all will be ready to start, and not all that start will finish. Since 1966, Club Triumph have organised this endurance event. Starting at Knebworth House near London, up to John O'Groats at the tip of Scotland and then down to Lands’ End at the tip of Cornwall, then back to where we started.

Why should you sponsor us? Firstly, it's raising money for a charity that doesn’t always get any attention and perhaps more importantly, is in dire need of it. Secondly, it’s an endurance event and mostly won't be “too much fun”. “Oh, Dear How Sad Never Mind” Thirdly, when have we ever asked you to sponsor us to do anything before? Never, because we’ve never done anything before. So please stick your hand in your pocket and help make sure we're also raising plenty of cash towards the great work of Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA). We hope to raise over £50,000.00 to build upon the sum of over £800,000.00 raised by previous RBRRs for UK Charities.

Appreciate anything you can give, as even just a fiver really helps.
