My sister and I, together with my nephew Myles, his girlfriend Hannah and my sisters fiancé Bryn, are taking on the epic challenge of Beyond Trails in London. Hannah and I are doing the 25k, whilst the others are doing the 55k.

We are doing this to raise funds for London Air Ambulance, after their amazing job of getting to Myles so quickly, delivering hospital emergency department care on the spot and then rushing him to hospital, where he had life-saving brain surgery, ultimately saving his life. We will be forever grateful.

LONDON’S AIR AMBULANCE IS A CHARITY

When London calls, LAA team are there to reach those urgently in need of life-saving care. Their vision is to end preventable deaths in London from life-threatening injury. Their mission is to save more lives in London through rapid response and cutting-edge care. They are a charity that works alongside the NHS and their life-saving service is made possible by supporters.

It costs approximately £17 million (consolidated costs) per year to provide London with an advanced trauma care service 24 hour a day, seven days a week. Average cost per mission £2,600.

Beyond London is a trail route that will take us off the beaten track onto the city’s Capital Ring footpath. Here on Greater London’s inner circle we’ll come across some of London’s most iconic sights, from medieval wonderland Eltham Palace to the ancient woodland and rolling hills of Richmond Park. Alongside these well-known and much-loved sights, we’ll take in the everyday beauty of the trails, footpaths, parks, disused railway lines, woodland and more - almost total absence of main roads and highways on hidden trails with unexpected views and well known landmarks, giving us an experience of London like never before.
