We are colleagues at The Hyde Group who will be fasting to raise much-needed funds for victims of the devastating earthquakes that took place in Turkey on 6 February 2023.

Measuring at Mw 7.8 the earthquake was the largest in Turkey since the 1939, and the deadliest in Syria since 1822, causing widespread devastation of around 350,000 km2 (about the size of Germany). Around 14 million people were affected with 1.5 million people left homeless. The situation is still incredibly dire and we would like to help.

We'll be fasting voluntarily during Ramadan 2023 on select days throughout April and seeking sponsorship and funds, to go towards the aid effort. We are from a range of backgrounds and don't habitually fast, so this won’t be easy; abstaining from food and water between dawn and dusk on one of the selected dates (Thu 6th, Thu 13th and Thu 20th April), with our thoughts focused on all those suffering at this very moment.

Fasting is a tough challenge this year, from around 5am until 8pm, but we’re fully aware this is absolutely nothing in comparison to suffering out in the region.
