Story
Mental health.
Every single one of us has been touched by it in some way. Whether it’s ourselves, a family member, a friend, a colleague, or someone silently fighting battles nobody else can see.
Yet despite how common it is, there is still such a heavy stigma surrounding mental health — especially for men. Too often people are told to “man up”, “get on with it”, or made to feel as though struggling is weakness. But mental health is not an excuse. It is not attention seeking. It is not failure.
Sometimes it is simply the weight of life becoming too heavy to carry alone.
The human mind never stops. Millions of thoughts, emotions, worries and memories racing through us every single day while the world expects us to keep smiling, keep working, keep performing and keep pretending we’re okay.
But not everybody is okay.
Mental health is something incredibly close to both me and my family. I am a Level 3 RSPH Mental Health First Aider, while my dad is Level 2 qualified, and it is something we take deeply seriously because we know how important it is for people to feel heard, supported and understood.
Nobody should suffer in silence.
That is why on the 4th July we will be walking 50km in support of the Grapevine Wellbeing Centre — a charity whose work continues to change lives every single day. They provide people with something so many desperately need: a safe place. A place to talk. A place to breathe. A place to escape the noise of the world, even if only for a moment.
And sometimes, a moment is all it takes.
A moment to breathe.
A moment to feel safe.
A moment to let go of the weight on your shoulders.
A moment to stop fighting silently.
A moment to realise you are not alone.
The work this charity does for the people of Buxton is incredible, and we are proud to support them in any way we can.
If you are able to donate, share, or support this challenge in any way at all, it would mean the world — not just to us, but to every person this charity continues to help through their darkest moments.
Because nobody should ever feel like they have to face those moments alone.
