Story
I am taking part in the Birmingham 10k Great Run on Sunday 3rd May to raise funds to support the running costs of Age UK North Worcestershire’s free Information & Advice (I&A) service.
Information & Advice is at the heart of the charity’s work supporting the over 50s living in North Worcestershire. Each month the team’s trained advisors regularly support over 445 members of the community, offering information and advice on a range of topics (including social care, benefits advice, staying safe, warm and independent at home, as well as support for carers). Whilst demand for the service is increasing, the charity is finding it increasingly difficult to raise the funds needed so that it can continue to provide its free service which is why it has launched it ‘£10k for I&A’ campaign.
I work as a homeworker for Age UK North Worcestershire in the community supporting older people with their household tasks and taking the time to listen to their needs. A vital service, allowing them to remain independent in their own homes. It is a privilege to be part of their lives and brings its own rewards.
I started running shortly after having my first child and decided to combine it for raising funds for various charities since 2010. It covers my exercise quota for the week, maintains my wellbeing and raises funds for worthwhile causes!
For those who have donated in the past, will know what’s coming...
I have a bottle of bubbly on ice for anyone who can guess my running time. I have so far completed 5k runs and I estimate that my running time will be somewhere between 1hr 15mins to 1hr 20mins. I will post my running training times for 10k shortly. Please have a guess to spur me on!
Thank you very much for your continued support.
Fatima
