Story
For those who don’t know, in August 2022, my Dad unexpectedly suffered multiple seizures. He was rushed to A&E and we were told he had a cancerous brain tumour. The tumour was removed and unfortunately it was confirmed to be a grade 4 glioblastoma giving him 12-18 months to live after radiotherapy and chemo.
Glioblastoma’s are the most aggressive, fast growing brain tumours and they have tentacles that spread throughout the brain making them extremely difficult to treat. Malignant brain tumours have one of the lowest survival rates of all cancers and the cause of brain tumours is almost always unknown. Brain tumours kill more adults and children under 40 than any other cancers. Despite this, brain cancer is one of the poorest funded of all cancers resulting in a lack of research and so usually there is no cure.
On 27th May a group of us are cycling the Leeds to Liverpool canal route. Its just over 127 miles (204km) so will be a challenge especially for myself who’s never cycled more than a couple of miles. My Dad always wanted to do this and now as he is unable to, we are doing the cycle to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity. Any support or donations will be hugely appreciated!
We also want to raise awareness for Maggie’s- a great charity that gives brilliant support to those with cancer. https://www.maggies.org/our-centres/maggies-wirral/
