Story
Every year FCA NI chooses a local charity to support. This year we would like to support Brainwaves NI.
This cause is personal for many of our FCA team members and foster families alike.
One of our own foster parents, John Annett, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, the most common yet most aggressive form of brain tumour and is currently undergoing treatment.
There is yet to be a cure or advances in treatment in 20 years - therefore much needed funds are required to improve prognosis and survival in patients diagnosed with Glioblastoma.
Brainwaves NI is Northern Ireland’s only volunteer led brain tumours research and support charity and they are on a mission to make a difference.
Their goals are clear:
Support: They are there to support brain tumour patients, their families, and carers, providing a helping hand and a listening ear. 🤝
Awareness: They want to raise awareness about brain tumours! Knowledge is power, and together, they believe we can spread the word. 🗣️
Research: At the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research at Queen’s University, Belfast, they are funding vital research. 🧪
Their dream? To find a cure for brain cancer. 🌟
At FCA NI we will be organising events throughout the year to raise funds for this incredible charity organisation.
Event 1 - Belfast City Marathon
On May 4th our relay team - Ciara Doyle (FCA RM), Gerard McNulty (FP Rep), Amy White (Senior SW), Jordan Johnston (YP) and Morgan Binnie (FCA Team) will be participating in the Belfast Marathon. We are so grateful for them for taking part and will be there to cheer them on!
Event 2 - Summer Solstice Walk
This event is taking place on summer solstice (June 21st) and is a whole family event. Details will be sent to everyone individually and we would like as many of our families to participate as possible. Each YP will receive a sponsor pack in the post by end of April to begin collecting.
