I'm doing my first (and possibly my last 😆) marathon (Edinburgh) on 26 May. I'm raising money for Our Neighbours, an interdenominational Christian non-profit organisation reaching out to the poorest of the poor in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. One of my close friends has seen first hand the work of this organisation which seeks to restore hope and dignity to people blighted by poverty, starvation, illness and a lack of influence.

Zimbabwe has one of the highest unemployment rates in the African continent. While there are no 'newsworthy' wars, civil or otherwise, in Zimbabwe, many people are 'quietly' dying of malnutrition /starvation in a country characterised by hyperinflation, increased poverty levels, and political instability.

Whether it's their project to integrate the growing number of abandoned babies and children, or their programme to rehabilitate and restore people with a mental & physical challenges into the community, Our Neighbours aims to be the 'hands and feet' to meet the communities needs while at the same time empowering people to help themselves.

WorldShare UK facilitates UK financial support for Our Neighbours Ministry which is an Australian based charity so donations go them and then passed on to Our Neighbours. I've checked this with WorldShare and spoken directly to staff at Our Neighbours in Zimbabwe.
