Story
HIYA!
If you have this link, it’s likely you already know that I'm running the 2023 NYC marathon. So, I'd like to take the opportunity to tell you about the why...
Why a Marathon
I found running in 2020 and it's become a steadfast part of my life. As well as keeping me healthy and doing wonders for my mental health, running has taught me so much about myself and my physical and mental ability. From a total beginner, it's been so rewarding and empowering reaching new running goals and pushing my limits. So now it’s time to take on the ultimate running challenge: the marathon!
Why ‘Free to Run’
I love running and it has given me so much, but the freedom to just go out on a run is not a luxury afforded to all women. This is especially true for girls and young women living in areas of conflict. But Free to Run is changing this. As a grass root organisation they are working directly with women in areas of conflict to empower them through running, supporting them to build confidence, leadership skills and enhance their wellbeing. They are doing amazing work in Iraq and Syria and your donations will provide critical funds to allow the continuation and growth of their work.
A great way to understand their impact is through these short films – Free To Run | The North Face and On| Free to Run: Running against repression.
Why NYC
Visiting New York has always been a dream of mine, and I figured running the Five boroughs might be one of the best ways to get to experience it. However, the main reason for doing NYC marathon on 5th November is it falls 3 days before my 30th birthday. Running, much like my twenties, has taught me so much, taking on the challenge of the marathon felt like a fitting way to honor the decade, whilst allowing me to run headfirst into the next.
Thank you so much for your support!
