Story
In 2018, my friend and colleague Davy Żyw was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND)—a cruel illness that slowly shuts down the body, stealing movement, speech, and eventually the ability to breathe. Most people don’t live more than two years after diagnosis. Davy’s still going—six years later—and continues to inspire us all with his resilience, positivity, and tireless advocacy.
To support him—and everyone affected by this condition—I’m taking part in the toughest physical challenge of my life: a 600km cycle from Beaune in Burgundy to Barolo in northern Italy, crossing some of the Alps’ steepest and most demanding climbs. We’re a team of friends and colleagues from across the wine trade, united by one goal: to raise serious funds for the fight against MND.
This is not a leisurely ride. It’s long, it’s mountainous, and it’s going to hurt. But it’s nothing compared to what people with MND face every single day.
We’re raising money for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, which is helping to fund clinical trials and research that are bringing us closer to real treatment—and eventually, a cure. Over the last two years, our group has raised more than £600,000. This time, we’re pushing for £1 million.
If you’re able to support, please do. Every contribution moves us closer to the finish line—not just of this ride, but of the race to cure MND.
