Story
✨️ I’m taking on an epic challenge: running 200 miles (300 km) over 7 days - about a marathon or ultra everyday - as part of Miles for Myeloma in support of Myeloma UK.
This adventure will take me along the legendary Silk Road, crossing Tajikistan border to border. It means running through scorching valleys, across breathtaking but remote mountain passes reaching 4,500m altitude, battling unpredictable weather, below freezing temperatures, and camping in sparse farmstays scattered across this wild, untouched landscape.
This challenge carries a deeply personal meaning. Today marks the second anniversary of my father’s passing, Christopher Simpson, who died from multiple myeloma. He was not only a wonderful dad but also an extraordinary landscape photographer, whose images captured the wild beauty of the world. Running through these vast and dramatic landscapes feels like the most fitting tribute I can make to him - a way of carrying his vision and spirit with me every step (or hobble) of the way.
It’s going to be tough - and I’m already nursing a freshly sprained ankle. Luckily, as a soon-to-be-qualified physiotherapist, I’ve been giving myself my own rehab and hope to get back to almost full strength, just in time. If nothing else, it adds an extra twist to the challenge! No pun intended.
But of course, the real challenge is faced every day by those living with myeloma, an incurable blood cancer that affects thousands of families every year. Myeloma UK funds vital research and support services, giving hope to patients and their loved ones.
💛 Every donation, big or small, really does make a difference. You could be helping to fund the breakthrough that saves one life, or even thousands.
If you’ve ever thought of supporting, this is the time. Please give what you can, cheer me on from afar - or not - and know that you’ve played a part in something bigger than just one run....a walk in the park. 😉
Thank you from the bottom of my heart - and bless your soul! 🙏
