Fettes College Rowathon for SuperTroop

Yvonne Mitchell is raising money for SuperTroop

Rowathon · 6 June 2026

We run a week-long residential holiday for children and young people with disabilities every summer in Edinburgh. All our team are volunteers. We're focused on giving our holiday-makers a WONDERFUL week, and GROWING our scheme to offer more holidays across Scotland.

Story

On 6th June nearly 300 Fettesians will take their turn to row their House ergo as part of a 10 hour rowathon on behalf of SuperTroop. The money raised from this huge commitment of time and energy will allow young people with learning disabilities to experience something we all probably take for granted - a summer holiday.

SuperTroop offers these young people a week’s holiday at Fettes College, with volunteers providing expert, 24/7, one-to-one care. The young people, who have often never been away from home, have the unique chance for independence and adventure. The impact of the holiday and the joy that it brings to the holidaymakers lasts well beyond the week itself.

One parent has told us that they are “constantly reading his home diary from the week to him and he keeps pointing to his suitcase indicating he wants to go on holiday again”. The holidaymakers’ families also gain a precious week to invest in themselves and their other kids.

Each week’s holiday costs roughly £40k with expenses including specialist disability, communication, medical and personal equipment, as well as funding some fun activities for the holidaymakers.

SuperTroop has been working with Fettes College since we started. The holidays would not go ahead without the generous support of the school, from the use of the amazing facilities to the involvement of members of staff and the brilliant sixth formers who volunteer on the holiday itself. It is particularly heart warming to see Old Fettesians return year after year as they continue to support the holiday.

We would all like to thank everyone taking part in this year’s fundraising challenge and thank you in advance for your generous donations.
