Story
This is a charity that, with open arms, provides a warm welcome to families who are going through the toughest of times.
Following a diagnosis of a rare form of Leukaemia, my brother, Gethin, had to undergo a bone marrow transplant at Bristol Royal Infirmary. It's a 168 mile round trip from our home in Swansea, which meant as a family, we faced long periods of time apart.
Young Lives Vs Cancer provided free family accommodation at 'Sam's House', just minutes from the hospital. This meant Mum and Dad could stay in Bristol, close to Geth. I was also able to visit too, there was a games room and we shared meals together whenever his treatment allowed.
Quite simply, this charity enables families to be together. It allows parents to focus on what truly matters and alleviates the strain when families need somewhere to stay. They provide a home-from-home space for parents and siblings who would otherwise face hundreds of miles of travel each week and expensive hotel bills over the weeks and months of treatment.
I am running the Birmingham Half Marathon on May 4th so that more families can receive the invaluable support we did.
Thank you so much for any donation you're able to give to this wonderful charity. To find out more visit https://www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk/what-we-do/a-free-place-to-stay/sams-house-bristol/
