Two months ago I sprained my ankle and badly damaged the ligaments in my ankle (see pic!!). With only one month left I’m still not back running properly but I still plan to be in Greenwich to celebrate Owen’s life 💙 He showed me how to tackle adversity and challenges whilst still smiling and inspiring others around him. That’s what I’ll aim to do in London. Thank you to everyone who has donated. It means so much

Unfortunately Owen lost his battle with Cancer on 23rd November 2025. He was 17. He inspired me to complete the 50mile run in Sept last year and I’ll do my best with my fundraising and on the day for the London Marathon to honour the amazing person he was 💙 Thank you 💙
If I can have a couple of minutes of your time, I would be extremely grateful to share my reasons for once again doing my best to fundraise for Make-A-Wish. The two things I'm going to do are very different! The 2026 London Marathon needs no introductions and will be my 5th for Make-A-Wish. The "Double Marathon" is something I'm doing at work (in St Ives, Cambs) in conjunction with a fundraising event I'm helping organise.
So the why.
I feel so grateful and privileged for getting involved with Make-A-Wish in 2019 and since then have met so many amazing families and beautiful, courageous children that have had their wishes granted.
This became even more real for me in March 2024 when I met an incredible young man, Owen Jenkinson. Owen had been battling Ewings Sarcoma, a cancer of the soft tissue around your bones. Once diagnosed with this cancer he was told to stop running ... no football, no cricket, no athletics. His Uncle got him in to golf and he became a golf nut. His wish was to get a new set of golf clubs and with the help of the company I work for, I was able to grant Owen's wish.
The day I spent with Owen and his father Bill and grandfather Ian, has left an unbelievable impact on my own life. I've stayed in touch with his family and to see how this young man, who had been in remission only for the cancer to return shortly before his wish, tackle everything that comes his way with such courage, determination and strength whilst still smiling, laughing and getting on with life is simply inspiring.
Unfortunately, the chemotherapy has stopped working and the cancer continues to grow and spread. However, I still see and hear of how he's been out with family and friends or recently to the Tramlines music festival!!!
I really don't know how he does it but he does.
That's why I'm going to take on a double marathon in a day. In November 2024, for no reason apart from fund raising for Make-A-Wish, I ran over 60km in a day around St Ives but it didn't feel enough at the end. I felt like I could do more. So I'm trying to push myself more this September and go for 52.2 miles or 84km! I know if things get tough or my brain is saying "no more" or "stop" that I've got to just find the same inner strength and resilience that Owen has shown through his battle with cancer. How he's always kept going.
The London Marathon in 2026 is for him and I will be wearing "his flag" as a cape on the day as he truly is my super hero. This one is truly for you Owen and hopefully what I can raise will mean that because of you Make-A-Wish can help another child and their family have a day where they can laugh, smile and form those priceless memories.
I know I've asked many of you over these past six years to see what you can spare but hopefully you can understand the importance of this one to me and truly appreciate why I'm asking again. Anything that anyone can spare will so greatly be appreciated.
Owen, from me to you, thank you. Thank you for showing me so much about our inner strength and for reminding me that life is for making memories. This one is for you.
