Story

This isn't just a charity challenge about 39 people running to support one remarkable individual completing 39 marathons in 39 weeks across the Home Counties. This is a heartfelt mission to empower Tommy’s, the pregnancy and baby charity, with the resources needed to guide those navigating through the profound darkness of grief and despair.

Nothing can truly prepare us for the weight of grief associated with child loss, regardless of the circumstances. For many, that period can feel like a blur. However, it is through the unwavering support of friends, family, colleagues, and organisations like Tommy’s that we find our way through. The kindness and compassion shown by Tommy’s during our time of need brings warmth to my heart.

For 16 weeks, dreams were woven around the life we envisioned with our little girl. Then one day, everything changed... In my search for understanding grief, I encountered a powerful analogy: "Grief is like a stone you are forced to carry around in your pocket; at first it’s heavy and ever-present. Over time you grow stronger, making it feel lighter—not because it has diminished but because you have adapted. Eventually, it coexists with you; while it may seem you've moved on in the eyes of others, you are simply learning to live alongside your stone."

This analogy resonates deeply with me. At our back door lies a set of porcelain tiles—never pristine due to the joyful chaos of life with a toddler—surrounded by perfect little stones. Each time we open that door for our son Felix to explore freely, his instinct is always to gather stones and place them in his pot. Unbeknownst to him, he helps us carry the weight of our past experiences.

On March 21st, 2026, I will be running alongside Olly Brown on this journey during the Cambridge leg of these 39 marathons. If you can find it in your heart to donate towards this cause, your generosity will help illuminate paths for others emerging from their own darkness.

Thank you for your support and love.
