Story

In January last year, Eimantė and I went through an ectopic pregnancy. Initially this was diagnosed as a miscarriage by A&E on the Tuesday, but as the days progressed Eimantė’s symptoms got worse and after a visit to Aberdeen Maternity Hospital on the Thursday they suspected an ectopic pregnancy after a scan showing internal bleeding. She then underwent emergency surgery the same day.

During Eimantė’s recovery post surgery, the charity MISS dropped off a memory box. This really meant a lot to us. They are a great local charity - based in Aberdeen - and are the only one that provides support for early pregnancy loss. They have started building the Forget Me Not garden in Hazlehead crematorium.

Now onto the silly thing I’m doing for your donations!

On the 4th and 5th of May, I’ll be running Ultra X Scotland. That’s 110km over two days, running around Loch Ness. 60km on the Saturday, running from Inverness to Fort Augustus, camping out overnight, then 50km on the Sunday running from Fort Augustus to Dores on the other side of the loch. It also includes over 3700m of elevation gain over the weekend. My last really long run is in the books now too, after completing the Manchester Marathon on the 14th of April. Quite excited for it, but also a little worried…

The symptoms of ectopic pregnancies were not something I was aware of before this happened, and I can only hope that nobody has to go through what we had to. Symptoms specific to ectopic rather than a miscarriage are pain in the tip of the shoulder, abdominal pain low down on one side. An A&E trip is immediately required if these symptoms occur: a sharp, sudden and intense pain in your tummy, feeling very dizzy or fainting, feeling sick, looking very pale.
