Annual Fundraising to support Dyslexia Association

The Dyslexia Association provides support and services for dyslexic children and adults of all ages, also for their parents/families, educators, employers and the wider community. Their aim is to improve the lives and expectations of dyslexic people, helping them to reach their full potential.

Story

Finton’s Legacy was created to remember Finton Northing and to welcome neurodiversity at RSK. Finton started working for Central Alliance in January 2023 - he had a great character and was well liked by all.

In February 2023, Fin tragically passed away to the devastation of all who knew him, including all at RSK.

When Finton joined Central Alliance, he really appreciated RSK’s occupational health team contacting him to ask what support could be provided to assist him with his dyslexia. It gave him hope that he was with a company where he would have opportunities to progress his career; he hadn’t received the same support with previous employers.

What is Dyslexia: The British Dyslexia Association defines dyslexia as a neurological difference that affects around 10% of the population. In definition: “Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty which mainly affects the development of literacy and language-related skills. It is likely to be present at birth and to be lifelong in its effects. It is characterised by difficulties with phonological processing, rapid naming, working memory, processing speed, and the automatic development of skills that may not match up to an individual’s other cognitive abilities.”

We want to highlight the strengths that come with neuro-diverse traits such as dyslexia when it is screened and support is provided . This is why we are making an annual pledge to fund full diagnostic tests for Adults and Children. A full diagnostic test for an adult would be £575 and for a child it would £525. Screenings (which flag traits of dyslexia and don’t diagnose it fully) are just £34.50 for an adult. With this, we ask you to help us reach our target so we can change the lives of many people who would otherwise not get the recognition and support needed for Dyslexia due to the cost of screenings.
