Crisis Icebreaker 2023/2024
Campaign by Crisis (RCN 1082947)
Make a difference to someone affected by homelessness by getting sponsored to take on a cold-water challenge

Story

In December 2023 I will be swimming one very cold meter for every person recorded sleeping rough in London between 2022-23.

What am I doing?

Swimming 1 meter in Brockwell (extremely unheated) Lido for every person recorded sleeping rough in London between March 2022 - April 2023, 10,053 in all [Combined Homelessness and Information Network, 2023].

Why am I doing it?

Because homelessness is not a lifestyle choice. 10,053 people were recorded sleeping rough in London between March 2022 and April 2023, 64% of these people were doing so for the first time . This number doesn't include households in unsecure or temporary housing and the 'hidden homeless' that could push this figure up to 13 times higher. Homelessness and rough sleeping happens for many reasons, can be caused by many different factors and can be prevented when support is available.

Crisis do amazing work and I want to help that out a bit.

When am I doing all this swimming?

1st - 31st December 2023. It's going to be bloody freezing.
