FareChance Fire Walk · 27 February 2024

FareShare South West rescues high-quality food from the food industry and shares it with charities and schools across the south west, turning an environmental problem into lasting social good. Our supportive volunteering and employability programmes offer local people the opportunity to thrive.

Story

When a young person hits 18, they are often expected to navigate the world with little to no support or experience. FareChance has been set up for young people aged 18 – 25 years who face multiple invisible barriers including but not limited to socio-economic status, cognitive disabilities, familial chaos and caring responsibilities. Many of our participants also are just looking for an opportunity to build their confidence and work experience capabilities. FareShare South West’s FareChance programme work with these young people on a 10 week programme to build confidence, skills and realise their potential.

Each young person on the current programme is brilliant, brave, and above all they turn up to life. Each day the young people work hard in the warehouse to distribute food to people who need it most, all whilst learning key skills to join many industries. In doing so they grow personally and professionally, and we have seen the most extraordinary results over the past year. When someone is given a purpose, taught the skills they need and shown what potential they have, confidence comes in abundance and proves their importance in our society.

Could you support our FareChance team in their latest challenge?

On Tuesday the 27th of February at 8pm, our FareChance Team (Amy with three FareChance Participants) will be walking over hot coals to raise money for the programme and the wider work of FareShare South West. By sponsoring our team, you’ll be enabling more individuals to discover their value and potential at FareChance, all while helping put a stop to food waste and food poverty in the south west.

You are also invited to attend the event to support and watch! The fire walk will take place on Tuesday 27th Feb at 8pm on College Green outside Bristol Cathedral. There will be live samba music and a chance to buy raffle tickets from other members of our FareChance team.

Fareshare South West is an incredible organisation who address food waste and hunger at the same time. We take good quality, in-date food destined for landfill and redistributes it to 400 charities and community groups across the South West weekly. On behalf of the FareChance Team, thank you ever so much for supporting our firewalk and the wider work of the charity we’re so proud to be part of.
