Story
St John's Hospice provides palliative care for the community of North Lancashire, South Lakes and parts of North Yorkshire.
Services include an inpatient ward for end-of-life care as well as pain and symptom management, a Hospice at Home service for people who choose to spend their last time at home, Clinical Nurse Specialists who support people with planning and pain & symptom management, and a Respite Service for carers of loved ones who need rest, day or night. St John's also offers pre and post bereavement support plus other services you may not associate with a Hospice such as Social Workers and Therapists.
All that care, compassion and support is offered free of charge to patients, their families and carers. To deliver such an important service, however, is not cost free - with around a quarter of funding recieved from the government and the remaining amount raised by the local community. This is an important pillar of the North West community which has touched countless lives over the years - and continues to be a leading light for many in difficult times.
The FlexMR Cross Bay Walk
The Morecambe Cross Bay Walk is a historic hiking route that crosses Morecambe Bay in Northwest England. The route has connected Hest Bank, Lancashire with Kents Bank, Cumbria for centuries, but presents many hazards, including weather, tides, quick sands, and unpredictable channels.
Approximately 8 miles long, and taking an average 3-4 hours, the walk is a popular fundraising activity - connecting walkers to a sense of history and local tradition, whilst supporting important causes. The FlexMR team will attempt this challenging crossing on Monday, June 9th 2025 to raise funds for St John's Hospice as part of our commitment to this important local charity.
