Story

OUR BELOVED TOWER NEEDS OUR HELP!

The prevailing winds and lashing rain constantly batter the brickwork, leading to mortar erosion and water ingress - particularly on the west-facing wall. Temperature differentials and internal condensation exacerbate the problems. To cut a long story short, in the Spring of 2025 we HAVE to carry out essential repairs to ensure that the problems (both internal and external) don't get worse - and the costs don't spiral even higher.

And what IS it going to cost? The total cost is just under £350,000 . See DETAILED CONDITION SURVEY - and SUMMARY COSTS on the Folly Tower Website.

And we REALLY need your help! Yes - we're applying to many local and national funding bodies; but we ALSO need the financial support of members of the Community (not least because this also increases enormously our chances of successful applications to national funding bodies) .

SO - we'd like to focus our Community funding efforts JUST on the repointing of the brickwork! (Total cost is 46K + VAT).

Can we raise that 50K TARGET figure through crowdfunding? IS the tower important enough to us? YES - OF COURSE IT IS - AND YES OF COURSE WE CAN!

Out of the total of approx 40,000 external bricks, 8000+ need repointing. In other words, the cost is £6 per brick .
