For some, the joy of Christmas feels like a distant dream as they struggle to put food on the table, let alone gifts under the tree.

As a mother of an incredible 28-year-old autistic son, Akintade, I understand the weight of this struggle all too well. Every year, Akintade and I take it upon ourselves to spread a little joy. We deliver hampers filled with essentials and treats to families who need them the most. Through the generosity of Sainsbury’s and Amazon, we also send hampers across the country, bringing hope and relief to parents and caregivers who are often overlooked during this season.

This initiative is deeply personal to me. It’s a reflection of my journey and my unwavering belief that no family should feel forgotten at Christmas. However, with the soaring cost of living, the number of families in need is growing, and I cannot do it alone.

Many parents of autistic individuals are unable to work due to the high demands of caregiving. Finding suitable and affordable care for their loved ones, even for a few hours to do Christmas shopping, feels impossible. As others revel in the festivities, these families are left feeling isolated, struggling to make ends meet.
