Walking the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Border in Memory of Carol – Supporting Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance

On Sunday 4th May, during a family BBQ, our Step mum Carol suffered a sudden heart attack and stopped breathing. In those critical first moments, we came together as a family—calling for emergency help, fetching a defibrillator, and performing CPR within minutes.

Thanks to the incredible speed and coordination of emergency services—including a first responder, ambulance crew, and the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance—all arriving within 20 minutes, Carol’s heart was restarted.

Despite everyone’s efforts, Carol sadly never regained consciousness and passed away peacefully in hospital on Tuesday 6th May.

We are forever grateful for the care, compassion, and tireless work of the paramedics, doctors, and air ambulance team. It was during this heartbreaking time that we learned the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance is funded entirely by voluntary donations—with no government support.

More than just an emergency helicopter, the service brings critical care doctors and life-saving equipment directly to patients, fast. They cover an area of 3,500 square miles, reaching anywhere in Lincolnshire or Nottinghamshire in just 20 minutes. Every mission costs around £4,000, and they fly four life-saving missions per day. To operate each year, they need to raise an incredible £30 million.

In Carol’s memory, we—Amanda, Helen, and Richard—along with various friends and family, have decided to walk the entire Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire county border, covering over 400 miles. We’ll be planning our own route and visiting towns, villages, and local businesses along the way, sharing our journey in hopes of raising awareness and funds.

This walk is our way of honouring Carol’s life and giving something back to the service that gave us precious extra moments with her. We would be so grateful for your support—whether that’s through donations, sharing our story, or cheering us on from afar.
