Great North Run in memory of Ian

Gemma Edwards is raising money for Road Victims Trust
In memory of Ian Hyde

Great North Run 2026 · 13 September 2026 ·

Road Victims Trust support of road victims is provided by a team of highly skilled counselling volunteers and staff. The principles and ethos of the RVT reflect a primary and compelling aspiration to provide personal support to all those affected by the trauma caused by serious road collisions.

Story

On 13th September, I’ll be running The Great North Run. This was meant to be a race I ran side-by-side with Ian, exactly as we had planned. We had completed it last year and Ian was so excited to be running it again. Following his sudden and tragic passing, I am now stepping up to the starting line in his memory to raise funds for the Road Victims Trust.

Witnessing a serious road accident as I did is something no one should ever have to go through. In the aftermath, feeling completely overwhelmed, The Road Victims Trust was there for me, an anchor. They are providing dedicated counseling and are a genuine lifeline to me, Ian's mum, and his sister. We are raising funds so this incredible charity can continue supporting others through their darkest days.

Ian would have cared deeply about us receiving counseling to help process what I witnessed and to navigate our grief. The Road Victims Trust provides that vital support for as long as we need it.

If you are able to donate, any contribution—no matter the size—would mean the world to me and help honor a cause Ian would have felt passionate about.
