Kirstie's fundraiser for Leiomyosarcoma Research UK

Kirstie Holmes is raising money for Leiomyosarcoma Research UK
In memory of Lorraine

Our first ever half marathon · 11 January 2026

Leiomyosarcoma Research UK (LMSR UK) is a new charity focused on advancing research into leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer affecting smooth muscles. Our mission is to support research, provide education, and foster a strong community for LMS patients and their families across the UK.

Story

We are setting up this fundraiser in loving memory of my Mam Lorraine, who we sadly lost on August the 17th 2025 after her brave battle with Uterine Leiomyosarcoma (uLMS).

Mam was our world, she was caring, full of love and my best friend. To see her faced with such a rare and aggressive cancer was heartbreaking. Uterine Leiomyosarcoma is a cancer that grows in the smooth muscle of the uterus. It is extremely rare, often fast-growing, and sadly very difficult to treat. Because it is so uncommon, there isn’t enough awareness or research, which makes it even harder for families like ours.

We want to honour Mam’s memory by giving something back. Our goal is to raise enough money to support Leiomyosarcoma Research UK, to help fund vital research into this devastating disease and give hope to others in the future. This will be our first ever running event, and as someone who has only recently started their running journey, it is going to be a massive challenge for us, but one we are proud to take on in Mam’s name.

Mam was so loved, and we know she would want us to try to help others who may face the same journey. Any donation, no matter how small, means the world to us and will help us keep her memory alive in such a meaningful way. Thank you for your support, it truly means the world.
