Walking for Mandy 💙

This year, Laura, Sarah C, Cat, Sarah B and I are taking part in Sue Ryder’s Starlight Hike, walking under the stars to raise money for a cause that has become incredibly personal to us.

Mandy spent the last few weeks of her life at Sue Ryder’s hospice in Moggerhanger. At an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time, the care she received made such a difference. The nurses, doctors and wider hospice team gave Mandy something that mattered so much to her — control, dignity and the ability to make choices about how she wanted to spend her final weeks.

But the care wasn’t just for Mandy. Sue Ryder supported her family and friends too. They were there to answer questions, listen, reassure and help us navigate something none of us were ever prepared for. They gave us the time and space to simply be with Mandy, making precious memories together during those final weeks.

We will always be incredibly grateful for the care Mandy received. It made an unbearable time a little more bearable, and it is something we will never forget.

That’s why we want to raise money for Sue Ryder so that other people and their families can receive the same expert, compassionate care when they need it most.

Sue Ryder believes that how we die matters. We know, because we saw first-hand just how much it matters.
