Walk in Her Name 2025 · 1 March 2025 to 31 March 2025 ·

In the UK, a woman dies every two hours from ovarian cancer. As the leading ovarian cancer research charity, we’re working to change that. By finding new and better ways to prevent, treat and detect ovarian cancer, we will ensure a future where no woman dies of ovarian cancer.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Following a ten-week battle with ovarian cancer Becki sadly passed away on her birthday, 26th November 2024. We lost our best friend that day.

Becki brought brightness to any situation. She was the funniest, kindest, and most loyal friend and had THE most infectious laugh, which we miss dearly. Becki loved to read, was a film fanatic, and was a real family girl.

Following Becki's passing, a huge loss has been left. She left a devoted and loving family: her mum and dad, Karen and Nigel, sister Hannah, husband Daz, and beautiful little girl Beatrix.

We vowed to live on in Becki’s memory and look to pursue any way we can to raise awareness of Ovarian Cancer and support in finding a preventative for this disease.

Ovarian cancer starts when abnormal cells in and around the ovary and fallopian tubes grow and divide in an uncontrolled way and form a cancerous tumour (malignant). The cancerous cells grow into surrounding tissues and can spread to other parts of the body.

There are several different types of ovarian cancer and the type of cancer depends on the type of cell and tissue the cancer starts in.

Because the symptoms are common and misdiagnosed, ovarian cancer is often diagnosed late. The earlier ovarian cancer can be diagnosed, the easier it is to treat.

As a group of friends we aim to achieve £1000 in the hope to raise funds and awareness to support Ovarian Cancer Action.

Ovarian Cancer Action is a community of changemakers with one purpose: to give ovarian cancer the focus it needs to increase 10-year survival rates.

They live and breathe this lifesaving, world-leading research. They fund more ovarian cancer research than any other UK gynaecological cancer charity. It’s how they've driven some of the biggest breakthroughs of the last 19 years.

By connecting the world's leading scientists together, they're creating a powerful hub of experience, expertise and insight. So, they confidently fund research that takes us a step closer to their goal: that by 2032 half of women will live more than 10 years after diagnosis.

In 2025, a woman dies every two hours from ovarian cancer in the UK. We know survival is more likely if it’s caught early, but there’s currently no screening option and symptoms can often be mistaken for other illnesses.

So we're joining thousands of others across the UK and taking part in Walk in Her Name. Walking100km our way this March for a future where no woman dies of ovarian cancer.

The money we raise by taking on this challenge will fund their research to give women the best chance of survival.

We will end our steps, on Mother’s Day, for Becki doing a group walk at Brimham Rocks, a place where Becki loved to walk with Daz & Bea.

Walk in Her Name.
