Story
On the 11th July a group of family & friends will be completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in memory of Soph, my sister. We will be raising money for a charity very close to our hearts, Sue Ryder Wheatfields so they can continue to support families just like ours & make the last moments with loved ones as special as possible.
Sophie was diagnosed with incurable stage 4b ovarian cancer in October 2024 at only 28 years old⦠The words you never want to hear of course but certainly would never expect to hear at her age with a little boy who hadnāt even turned 1. She had been back & forth to the doctors from January 2024 with lots of different symptoms. She had a clear ultrasound in the January but continued experiencing symptoms & in the end had pretty much every symptom of Ovarian Cancer. Nobody had ever mentioned the possibility of cancer to her nor had they actioned a CA125 blood test to rule it out. Early diagnosis is key with no routine diagnostic tool to confirm, so I feel really passionately about continuing to raise awareness in Sophs honour. I want to ensure everyone knows the symptoms of ovarian cancer, knows what to ask the doctors to rule it out & just remain hopeful nobody else we know never ends up in the same situation.
Life felt very heavy & so unfair. The weeks of waiting to understand the severity, the full diagnosis & ultimately the time Soph would have with us all. There were so many moments as a big sister where I felt so helpless, I just wanted to take this all away from her & make it better, but I couldnāt, this was happening & we knew at this point life was going to be changed forever.
As I expected Soph took everything in her stride & always just said āit is what it is, there is nothing we can do to change it, we have to just put one foot in front of the otherā. She then very bravely decided to start sharing her journey to spread as much awareness as possible, she shared the highs & the lows in the hope that she might be able to stop this happening to someone else if people know the symptoms for themselves but also anyone around them. She set up a TikTok account, spoke with local newspapers & raised an incredible amount of awareness. She faced so much in the last 14 months of her life but my goodness she faced it head on! it wasnāt just cancer it was so much more than that, loosing her hair, (which she absolutely rocked in the end!) unable to be the hands on mummy to her little boy Henry, several life changing operations, not been able to eat for the last 7 months of her life receiving nutrition via TPN, (myself & George Sophieās husband completed hours of practice to learn how to feed her). Unfortunately Soph was unable to live comfortably at home due to pain for prolonged periods of time (we are talking months & months at a time) the cancer took so much away from her but one thing it never took away was her sparkle.
The selflessness, strength & resilience she showed will forever stick with me, we will always be in awe of her & she truly fought everything that was thrown her way in the most inspiring way, we really couldnāt be any prouder of our girl. šŖ½
So, the challenge!!! We will be completing 24 miles, climbing the 3 Yorkshire peaks & achieving an elevation gain of 5360ft in 12 hours. Yes itās going to be tough, we will all most likely have moments we want to give up but it will be nothing compared to what Sophie endured over the last 14 months of her life. We will use her as our inspiration every step of the way to help us all get through it!!!
We appreciate your support more than we could ever say with words, so please dig deep, share this page, spread awareness & wish us luck as I think we may need it!
The training has certainly commenced & is going well so far, We will continue sharing our training progress & of course post our achievements after the day is complete.
We love you & we miss you Soph š§” #forever29
