Story
As some of you already know, back in December we sadly lost our identical twin girls Sophie and Nina 5 months into our pregnancy after having complications due to selective fetal intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) which affects roughly 10-15% of identical twin pregnancies ✨
We were understandably devastated but we received so much support from our friends who were there for us with such generosity and kindness in the darkest of times.
We all know that baby loss is a deeply personal and traumatic experience at all stages of pregnancy, yet people rarely speak of it other than with their closest friends/family. We appreciate many others will have experienced this pain.
Whilst nothing ever heals that wound, there are many amazing bereavement charities out there who support families who have been through this.
Whilst we’ll never get to see our twins grow up we’re determined that their brief existence won’t have been for nothing. That’s why we are joining a team of other bereaved twin parents to climb Ben Nevis in 31st May in aid of Footprints baby loss charity who support parents who have experienced multiple pregnancy loss and have been of great help to us.
Separately, we will be walking with our kids the 22 miles (wish us luck!) from our old flat in Edinburgh to our home in North Berwick on our wedding anniversary (8th June) in memory of our girls. 💖
To whoever has read this, thank you. And if anyone would like to sponsor our hikes and support this fantastic cause then we will be forever grateful. 🙏🏻
And if you have experienced baby loss or know someone who has, do get in touch with Footprints or other great charities like Held in Our Hearts because sometimes just an ear to listen from someone who understands your pain makes the world of difference.
Lots of love, Gill & Gav
