Story

Marie Curie Health Care Assistants and Nurses arrive to families during the midst of what can often be a very difficult time. Often we arrive to find care givers of patient’s whom have been sleeping on a mattress on the floor or in an arm chair for days, as they do not wish to be out of the same room as their loved one. This often leads to them being very tired, overwhelmed, distressed and exhausted. With support and care, care givers can then have much needed rest and sleep back in their comfy beds, knowing that their loved ones are in safe hands and being looked after. Also knowing, that if something should change we will wake them up.

I have first hand experience of this, as I am a proud Marie Curie Health Care Assistant and see this regularly in my role, as part of Lincolnshire Planned Nursing Team. Marie Curie allows families to be families again and that is why myself and my family have chosen to fundraise for Marie Curie so they can help, care and support more people in the future.

Our family fundraising affair will be happening on Saturday 13th July 2024 at Lincolnshire Showground, where we will take on the challenge of the Lincoln Inflatable Obstacle Course!

I don't expect them to be walking very well on Sunday hahaha. I know I wont be, after the grandkids pushing and pulling me through obstacles!

My daughter and another family member are both funeral Directors, working for Priestley & Cockett Funeral Directors in Lincoln. They both understand the importance of outstanding and compassionate end of life care, not just for those who are dying, but also for their loved ones around them. Many times Toni and Sally have passed on to me how families have been very happy with the love and care Marie Curie staff have provided to their loved ones. Also how our services were invaluable to them and how much we helped with them.

It costs £23 an hour to provide emotional and practical support within someone’s home so please so donate if you can. Let’s give as many people as possible a comfy night’s sleep and a better end of life care for their family members.
