At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime. A report in 2024, commissioned by Alzheimer’s Society, shows that around a million people in the UK have a form of dementia. This is projected to rise to 1.4 million people by 2040. Dementia is also the leading cause of death for women in the UK.

As an occupational therapist working in reablement, I see first hand the profound impact that dementia has on individuals and their caregivers. Every day, I work with people navigating the challenges of memory loss, confusion, and the changes that dementia brings to their daily lives. I also witness the incredible strength of families and caregivers who give so much to support their loved ones.

I know how crucial research and funding are in the fight against dementia, as well as supporting individuals to live well with dementia. Advances in understanding the condition, developing treatments, and providing support services can make a real difference in improving quality of life for those affected. Alzheimer’s UK plays a vital role in driving that progress, and I want to do my part to support their mission.

That’s why I’m running a half marathon—to raise money and awareness of Dementia. Please consider donating and helping me reach my goal. I really struggle with running and find it uncomfortable and challenging, but I'm glad to be putting myself out of my comfort zone to raise money for this cause.
