Story
Maria's daughter Anya was disagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome at the age of 3 after complaining that her "heart hurt". She would experience SVTs Our local hospital, defer to Royal Brompton for children's cardio issues and we're so grateful that they do! From the age of 3, Anya was treated by the Electrophysiology team at Royal Brompton which consisted of two Consultants and the most amazing Consultant Nurse who was always on hand by phone, email.etc when Anya experienced SVTs. Since the age of 3 there have been many visits to our local A & E department when Anya's heart rate beat at more than 200 beats per minute (one whilst she was dressed as a witch on Halloween!), many appointments at Royal Brompton (face to face and virtual during Covid) and much time spent educating Anya about the options available to her, as a result of the condition. Royal Brompton genuinely couldn't do enough to support us as a family but most importantly, Anya. Anya had successful heart surgery this summer on Rose Ward which is a childrens ward for children with Heart and Lung issues. Whilst waiting for final confirmation in January, it looks as though the surgery was a success and that Anya no longer has a heart condition. When on Rose Ward, we saw many babies who had received heart surgery - some when they were only a few days old. Their families were often staying at the hospital accommodation and they all remarked how amazing the staff had been at supporting them in very difficult circumstances. We're very grateful for the amazing support shown to our family and Anya - it would be fantastic to raise funds that help Royal Brompton to continue to provide this support to other children, and their families, who need it.
