Student Minds empowers students to build their own mental health toolkit. We also challenge the higher education sector, health sector, and government to make student mental health a priority. Together, we’re improving university communities so that no student is held back by their mental health.

Story

Hi, I'm Frankie - a 1st year Psychology student at the University of Leeds.

In August, I’ll be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, as part of a 6-day university trek.

This climb is more than a personal challenge and adventure – it’s about raising awareness and money for Student Minds. This charity, founded and based in Leeds, is dedicated to supporting students who are struggling with their mental health and their goal is to transform the state of student mental health so that all in higher education can thrive. Supporting students to develop the knowledge, confidence and skills to look after their own mental health, support their peers and create change. They also work collaboratively with institutions, students’ unions and other organisations involved in higher education, supporting them to take a whole-university approach to mental health.

Having struggled with my mental health as a student for many years and currently studying Psychology I understand how important it is for students to have access to support and resources they need, which is why Student Minds is so important to me. I know what it is like to struggle and unsure who to go to and want nothing more but to help people in similar situations. For me, this climb is both a physical and mental challenge all about resilience, determination and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I want to use this experience to encourage others to take on their own challenges.

In addition to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in August - I am running Leeds Half Marathon on May 11th! All money raised for both events will be combined and all go towards Student Minds :)

Over the next coming months, I will be taking part in many more exciting events and challenges all working towards these massive goals!

As a team, we hope to raise over £50, 000 to make a real difference for Student Minds.

Every donation, no matter the size, will have a meaningful impact on students!!!!

Donations raised up to my fundraising target will be split between Student Minds and supporting the costs of the challenge. Gift Aid on all donations and any funds raised above my target will go solely to Student Minds.
